The Space Pirates have an interesting social system. Apparently theyre all vat babies, but they do have personalities of their own, and free time to spend exploring those personalities. But in the end, they are both a savage and militaristic group of life forms who are devoted to improving their races potential.
survival of the fittest, i remember another sprite comic, "metroid, third derivative" (one of the subcomics on bob and george) which describes some of the space pirates social castes. Most of them are cloned, but a small group of low level space pirates (who do mostly maintenance work, since they aren't very strong) are allowed to reproduce sexually, then if one of them is born with a genetic mutation that that is advantageous, like maybe faster healing, then its disected and has its DNA analyzed to see if it can be used to make the next generation of warriors stronger. I'm not sure if thats how your space pirates work, but it makes sense to me.
The M Force has that kind of attitude... *my comic*

I read Metroid, Third Derivative too and the low levels are called Degenerates. And I thought they were just used for things like cannon fodder and target pratice and stuff, not maintenance.
This is making the Space Pirates sound like the Spartans.
Wow, a system where ONLY the nerds get laid...
How do you tell if a space pirate is female anyway?
Except in this case, they can shift through a carcass that has a mutation or trait that can be useful and integrate that into the general genetic coding for future generations.
